WHO WE ARE

Roselandia is a nursery and farming operation that has been owned by the Conradie family since the 1940s. Colin Conradie, the current owner, represents the fourth generation of growers in the family. The nursery initially focused on propagating trees for farmers who planted cultivars specifically for the Canning industry. Later on, we expanded our nursery beyond the canning industry and started producing various types of stone fruit trees, which made it possible to propagate a wider range of fruit trees to cater to different customers and markets.

WHAT WE GROW

However, in 2018, we made a strategic decision to change from the open-root system to growing trees in bags. This shift allowed us to specialize in a wider range of crops. Currently, we specialize in growing almonds, apricot, peach, nectarine, plum, and avocado trees. The inclusion of avocados is a recent addition to our product lineup. We have also expanded our operations by establishing a satellite avocado nursery in the Western Cape.

FARMING

In addition to our nursery, we also have a farming section that primarily focuses on stone fruit. This farming section complements our nursery operations and allows us to have a comprehensive understanding of fruit trees. Roselandia has a long history in the industry and has evolved over time to meet the changing demands and trends. We have expanded our crop offerings and adopted modern growing practices to provide high-quality trees to our customers. Roselandia has its own Packhouse and has been involved in packing stone fruit since 2004, we have also expanded into packing avocados in 2023. Being involved in the packing process provides a unique perspective on the entire journey of the fruit, from the farmer's efforts in cultivation to the growth of the crops and finally the processing and packaging. This comprehensive understanding of the entire process can be very beneficial in ensuring that the final product meets the desired quality standards.

We only use certified plant material mainly from Sapo Trust. Sapo Trust is a certified plant improvement organization with a core focus on the propagation of virus-free plant material of high phytosanitary status that is compliant with the rules and regulations for certified plant material. We also make use of tissue culture, if it is a client’s preference.

Coco peat (Coir) is an environmentally friendly organic growing medium made from the husk of a coconut and consisting of coco peat and coir fibers. Coco peat has excellent wettability and water retention capacity and can hold up to 1,000% of its own weight in water. Coco fibers increase the air-water ratio, which causes excellent oxygenation which promotes strong and early root growth and better crop yields. Coco peat products are excellent growing mediums and soil conditioners that can be applied directly or mixed with any type of soil.

OUR irrigation

Roselandia makes use of an Arrow system, which is a type of subsurface drip irrigation. This method applies water below the soil surface through narrow tubes, providing precise irrigation and water-saving benefits. UV Sterilized water is used, and the irrigation program is tailored to the specific needs of every tree being grown.

Roselandia Nursery is a registered Nursery with the DPA (Deciduous Plant Improvement Association) and a Sapo-accredited fruit tree nursery. We are subject to undergo three different inspections performed by independent PlantSA inspectors each year.
